1072 – Robert Guiscard, Duke of Apulia, Calabria and Sicily, captured the city of Palermo in Sicily from the Muslims, after a previous failed attempt in 1064.
1430 – Duke Philippe III of Burgundy created the Order of the Golden Fleece, a chivalric order which he promoted on an opulent scale.
1475 – Battle of Vaslui: Stephen III of Moldavia defeated an Ottoman army led by Had?m Suleiman Pasha, the governor of Rumelia.
