SUMMARY



This colloquium aims to explore the dimensions of the creation of opinion and the multiplicity of issues it opens up. From this perspective, studying opinion would ultimately amount to describing the role of image, sound, speech and language in the creation of opinion. It will be a question of confronting multidisciplinary perspectives and enriching them mutually. The objective will be to provoke the meeting and the dialogue of different approaches through thematic sessions mixing interventions and round tables. In this sense, it is important to take into account the elements making it possible to form an opinion and to nourish it, with the aim of using it for the purposes of promotion, seizing power or mobilizing crowds.

Argument

The doxa is situated between science and ignorance (Plato, 1966, p.235). It allows us to grasp the appearances of the world around the interpreter, without necessarily reaching the truth. Aristotle (1987, p.155) attributes a reasonable status to this concept by an opposition between science and opinion. But, unlike science, opinion is a way of thinking or a judgment, personal or collective, that one relates to a question, a subject or a set of subjects. An opinion denotes a particular orientation which is not necessarily right. It is built on interpretable representations according to the experiences of an individual or a socio-cultural community. It can be texts, noises, sounds, slogans, images, colors, bodies, etc. These elements of the world are not entirely autonomous and independent of each other (Bardin, 1975), and often transmit heterogeneous messages through multimodal corpora (Barthes, 1965). These are interpreted with reference to sociocultural notions, such as stereotypes shared by members of a community (Allen, 1965).



Opinion thus constitutes an essential element in the composition of an individual or collective cognitive filter making it possible to perceive reality and interpret the world. When shared, this filter represents an authentication factor and a cultural cement (within a community, thanks to its consensual nature (Boyer, 2003).



From this perspective, the media discourse highlights interpretations of facts that meet both the expectations of a target audience often determined by surveys, and those of an editorial line dictated for promotional purposes. This is why the media are a real sounding board and one of the architects of the doxa (Mayaffre, 2005). In the same vein, politics uses propaganda in times of war and peace to mobilize troops, manipulate crowds and gain public opinion in the run-up to elections. The political discourse is strewn with linguistic freezes referring to common values ??in space and time, activating the pathos of the audience and / or provoking anger against a common enemy. As for the filmic discourse, it is produced in a universe of characters,



Today, more than ever, we are witnessing the emergence of a new type of discourse, digital. Social networks and the digital world have become the new pool of opinion shaping and influence. On our screens, we are constantly overwhelmed by information, content that presents more and more the risk of being “fabricated” or even “false” (fake news).



These universes, among many others, convey different readings of the objects of the world, often oriented by actors with an enunciative authority and / or a charisma placing them at the center of a universe of symbols.



This event invites researchers to share interdisciplinary work, in order to determine the ingredients, tools, actors and factors contributing directly or indirectly to shaping opinion, as well as the contexts favoring this multimodal social practice.

The politico-media discourse and the doxa;

The web and the participatory audience;

The post-truth era and collective emotion;

Lexical units in discourse: between expression and content;

The role of social networks in the making of “digital” opinion. What future geopolitical issues?

Manipulation of public opinion;

Opinion in the public space;

Cinema, a tool of propaganda: between images of war and wars of images;

Use of propaganda in times of war and peace;

Censorship in cinema and the power of the image. What about Puritan morality?

The limits of representations: sex and taboos.

Practical methods of sending proposals

Proposals for papers in French will be sent



before April 15, 2021,

They will be written in the form of a Word document in docx format and accompanied by an abstract of 250 to 300 words, 5 to 10 keywords, a biographical note of 50 to 100 words and a bibliography. The feedback will be communicated before the end of April.



The conference will be held from June 23 to 25, 2021.
